Starting a small business and entering military basic training may seem like worlds apart. One begins with a civilian learning to become a soldier; the other begins with a person trying to turn an idea into a livelihood. Yet both experiences demand many of the same things: discipline, adaptability, persistence, responsibility, and the ability to keep moving when the original plan begins to fall apart.
I learned that lesson many years ago while serving in the U.S. Army, including an assignment as a Drill Sergeant. What stayed with me was not the barking of orders or the marching. It was watching people change.
