Innovation isn’t just about creating something new. Sometimes, it’s about discovering better ways to do what we already do well.
That message was at the heart of the Elizabethtown Business and Innovation Opportunity, hosted by Amplify on October 13 at the Historic State Theater in downtown Elizabethtown.
The event brought together local entrepreneurs, business owners, and community leaders to explore artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, and resources designed to help businesses grow and thrive.
Elizabethtown Mayor Jeff Gregory welcomed attendees, emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurship and continued economic development.
Terry Shipp, Economic Development Director for the City of Elizabethtown, shared how a connection made through an innovation hub more than 20 years ago helped him build a lasting business relationship that continues contributing to his success today. His story reinforced something that has always made Hardin County special: the power of relationships, collaboration, and a community willing to help one another succeed.
The keynote speaker, Chris Huber Reitz, founder of Attainable AI, delivered an engaging and practical look at how artificial intelligence is transforming the way businesses operate.
Rather than presenting AI as a complicated technology reserved for large corporations, Reitz encouraged attendees to view it as an accessible resource for businesses of every size.
As someone who manages multiple businesses while also leading a nonprofit organization, I can personally attest to the value of this technology. AI has become an integral part of my daily business operations, allowing me to work more efficiently, explore new opportunities, and devote more time to the people and priorities that matter most.
But one of the most important messages of the afternoon was that AI should enhance human capabilities, not replace human judgment.
Reitz reminded attendees that while technology can provide information, generate ideas, and streamline repetitive tasks, it cannot replace the professional experience, relationships, and personal understanding that business owners bring to the table. He also emphasized the importance of verifying information and protecting sensitive data.
That distinction is especially important in a community like ours, where a handshake, a personal recommendation, and a reputation built on trust still carry tremendous value.
The event also offered workshops focused on startup fundamentals and business growth through technology and AI, along with opportunities to connect with other entrepreneurs and local resources.
As Elizabethtown and Hardin County continue to experience growth, events like this encourage us to think beyond the way we’ve always done things while preserving the values that brought us this far.
Whether you’re launching your first business or have been serving customers for decades, innovation offers opportunities to work smarter, strengthen your business, and prepare for the future.
The greatest opportunity isn’t simply what technology can do for us. It’s what we can accomplish when we combine new tools with human creativity, experience, and the relationships that make our community strong.
Because the future of business isn’t just about technology. It’s still about people.
